StevieRay Latham

StevieRay Latham is a folk singer-songwriter who performs self-written material. He is a BBC Young Folk Award nominee and is shortlisted for the BBC Young Folk Awards after the independent release of Modern Attitudes.

Early development

Latham begins writing songs after his uncle gives him a worn electric guitar. He later says that, when he is about 12 and listening in his father’s car, he hears Heartland Feeling on a mixtape, which inspires him to write songs with a message.

Recording and releases

Peter Bruntnell records Latham singing in a basement one night. Latham then selects ten tracks for a self-financed release titled Modern Attitudes.

Career and live appearances

After Modern Attitudes, Latham works with At The Helm Records. He performs at venues including Hootenanny in Brixton, Notting Hill Arts Club and Green Note in Camden. He also appears at festivals including GoldCoast OceanFest, Truck Festival and Palmfest.

Reception

He is described in quoted critical comments as a young talent with strong prospects.
