Stefany June
Stefany June is an indie pop artist from Bielefeld, Netherlands, born in 1988. The project centres on home-grown pop with an electronic edge, combining singer-songwriter writing with danceable arrangements, layered harmonies and beat-led production.
Style and influences
The music is described as cheerful pop that draws something positive from melancholy. It uses electronic elements and what is presented as a handmade, bricolage approach to production. Stefany June’s voice is compared to a young Kate Bush. Main influences include The Asteroids Galaxy Tour and Feist.
Band and production background
At the University of Arts in Enschede, in the Netherlands, Stefany meets her band and producer Julian Enequist. The group is an international combination of Swedish, Indonesian, Dutch and German members, with a shared focus on danceable music and a Scandinavian touch.
Activity and releases
From April 2010, Stefany June plays across Germany and the Netherlands and completes around 70 shows in the first year. After about a year, the project releases its first song, Summer, on its own label, Galaxy Cat Records. The track is home recorded, mixed by Dutch mixer Guido Aalbers, and receives airplay in the Netherlands.
