Steel is a name used by several different acts, including a short-lived Swedish heavy and power metal project, a Serbian melodic hard rock band, and other unrelated bands and aliases.

Heavy metal project

One version of Steel is a short-lived project involving Dan Swanö, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Anders Nordin and Peter Lindgren. It releases one EP, Heavy Metal Machine, in 1998. The project is a tribute to 1980s heavy metal and power metal, with lyrics focused on metal, rocking through the night, and similar themes. The lineup is Dan Swanö on vocals, Mikael Åkerfeldt on guitar, Anders Nordin on drums and Peter Lindgren on bass.

Serbian band

Another Steel is a melodic hard rock band from Serbia, founded in 2012. The band records its first album, Deo Sna (Part of a Dream), in 2015 and releases it through PGP-RTS, described as Serbia’s largest record label.

Other uses of the name

Steel is also used as an alias for Martin Damm, who works across a wide range of experimental electronic music under several names, including Biochip C, Search & Destroy, DJ Fistfuck, The Speedfreak, Braindub, R.I.C., Psychic Parasite and Subsonic 808. He also runs the labels Anodyne, Shockwave and Ozon. Under the Steel name, he contributes tracks on the connected 4 split release with Gridlock, which is described as part of the Klangkrieg label’s connected series and as combining harder electronic dance music with industrial and drum and bass influences.

Other unrelated acts named Steel include an American hard rock band that releases a self-titled album in 1971, a NWOBHM band that issues the single “Rock out” / “All systems go” on Neat Records in 1981, and a DDO fan band that releases Reflections of Crystal Cove and the novelty song “Kobold Still Hates You (Forever)”.
