Stee Downes is an Irish singer and musician involved in soul, nu-jazz and funk, with work connected to Sonar Kollektiv. He has been active in the music industry since 1997.

Career

Downes begins as a bass player in a live dance music outfit called Nu root rhythm, with which he records The Big Smoke EP and tours Germany. He studies communications and media production until 2001, then moves to Amsterdam and works with a range of producers and musicians, including Ishfaq, who has previously released on Inphusion Records.

He later collaborates with Foundation Records in London on The Catalyst Project. In 2004 he returns to Dublin to work with Eddy Eustace on the track Disciples, released with Vinylvibes in Germany. That recording also receives favourable notice from figures including Rainer Truby of Compost Records, Michael Ruetten of Mr Soulpatrol and Dom Servini of Straight No Chaser and Wah Wah 45s.

Other work

Downes also works as label manager at Scribble Records. He continues to develop his live show and records new material for an album.
