Steak Number Eight is a Belgian post-metal and sludge metal group from Wevelgem. It is active from 2007 and later goes by the name Stake. The band is associated with post-metal, post-rock and sludge metal, and is linked with Mayway Records.

Line-up

The band includes Brent Vanneste on vocals and guitar, Cis Deman on guitar, Jesse Surmont on bass, Joris Casier on drums, and Louis Provost.

Albums and style

Its recorded output includes When The Candle Dies Out, All Is Chaos and The Hutch. All Is Chaos is produced by Matt Bayles, who also works with Isis and Neurosis, while The Hutch is mastered by Howie Weinberg, whose credits include Deftones, Faith No More and Pantera. The group is also described as drawing influence from Neurosis and the Neurot back catalogue.

Recognition

Steak Number Eight gains wider attention after winning Humo's Rock Rally, a Belgian competition that has also helped launch acts such as dEUS, Balthazar and Goose. At that point, the members are still in their early teens, and their music is noted for its dark, heavy sound.
