Starsky

Starsky is a drum and bass producer. The act is presented as a live, funk-focused outfit that combines soul, reggae and energetic funk house with a dance-oriented sound.

Members and background

Dean Sutherland plays bass and has spent 10 years with the Sydney funk band Skunkhour. He has released four major albums and has supported Jamiroquai, Cypress Hill, Ice Cube, INXS and the Beastie Boys. Mitchell Anderson handles vocals, keyboards, samples and production; he has fronted Skin and Central and has worked extensively in Australia and overseas. Grant Naylor is the producer and percussionist, and he regularly performs with DJs, bands and African percussion groups.

Style and performance

The group describes itself as a live band rather than DJs, with a sound built around a strong rhythmic and “human” element. Its music draws on sweet soul, reggae and energetic live funk house, and it is associated with a funky, soulful and dynamic approach. The act has also performed at many large festivals and concerts internationally, reaching audiences in 18 countries.
