Starless & Bible Black

Starless & Bible Black is a Manchester-based new-folk group active since 2005. The line-up includes Brian Edwards and Raz Ullah, alongside Hélène Gautier, Peter Philipson and Paul Blakesley. Gautier sings, Philipson plays guitars and chordophones and also sings, Ullah handles electronics, keys and drones, Blakesley plays upright bass and sings, and Edwards plays drums.

The group takes its name from a line in Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood, through a tune by British jazz pianist Stan Tracey and a King Crimson album title. Its self-titled debut LP is released in 2006.
