Stare Dobre Malzenstwo
Stare Dobre Małżeństwo is a Polish group active since 1984. Its name is often rendered in English as “good old marriage”. The group is associated with Polish sung poetry and began within the tradition of so-called student music, a style in which guitar accompaniment is central and lyrics often concern hiking in the Polish mountains, love and adventure.
Style and development
Although the group starts from student-music roots, it develops a distinctive approach and later moves towards acoustic blues. Its sound is linked to the use of poetry as song text rather than conventional pop lyric writing.
Poetry and collaborations
A defining part of the group’s work is its musical interpretation of poems by Edward Stachura, a well-known Polish poet. It also works with the poet Adam Ziemianin. In addition, it often uses poems by Jan Rybowicz, a poet whose writing addresses questions of human existence.
Membership
The group includes Krzysztof Myszkowski, The Gruz Brothers Band and Hlev.
