Standfast

Standfast is a Swedish duo formed in 1997 and active from then onwards. The group consists of singer Suzanne Standfast and guitarist Patrick Tucker. In the original line-up, the pair are described as Suzanne Mosson and Patrick Turner; Mosson is also identified as a backing singer for Swedish artist Dilba, while Tucker is described as a studio and tour musician at the time they meet in Stockholm.

Formation and early work

After meeting in Stockholm in 1997, the two decide to try making music together as a team. They begin by renting a small rehearsal room, buying an 8-track recorder and a cheap red plastic organ, and writing and recording their own material. After about a year they take a break, during which Tucker joins the Murlyn Music songwriting team and writes songs including “Because of You” for 98 Degrees and “Only For You” for Ronan Keating. Mosson also writes a song that later becomes “Shine On”, one of the tracks on the Standfast album.

Recording and release

The duo initially want to present their songs directly to a record company, but EMI Music asks them to send a demo instead. Shortly afterwards, the label contacts them again after hearing “No Longer” and asks to meet them. Standfast are best known for the 2001 single “Carcrashes”.

Other acts with the same name

The name Standfast is also used by several other bands, including former punk/crustcore and hardcore groups from Manila, Fairport, and Perth.
