SSS

SSS, short for Short Sharp Shock, is a crossover thrash and thrash metal group from Liverpool, UK. The band forms in 2005 and remains active. Its line-up includes Pete Broom, Dave Ferguson, Foxy, Phil Hartley, El Longo, Mark Magill and Stu.

Style and sound

The group plays hardcore-influenced thrash metal, also described as crossover thrash. Its music also draws on punk and metal, and later releases extend into death metal, prog rock, classic rock and grindcore.

Releases and labels

SSS issues its early material through Thrashgig / Dead & Gone Records, including a six-track demo in 2005, a four-track EP the following year, and its debut album Short Sharp Shock. The band then signs to Earache Records, which reissues the debut album with bonus tracks in early 2007.

The second full-length album, The Dividing Line, appears on Earache and includes 20 tracks across CD and LP versions, with one track unique to each format. An independent-record-store edition includes a free SK8 and DESTORY 7-inch featuring Frank Sidebottom. The band’s third album arrives in 2011 and includes guest vocals from Mark “Barney” Greenway of Napalm Death. In 2013, SSS signs to Prosthetic Records and releases the Manipulated Living EP, followed by its first full-length album for that label in 2014.

Summary

As a Liverpool crossover thrash band active since 2005, SSS develops from hardcore-influenced thrash into a broader punk-metal sound while moving through releases on Thrashgig / Dead & Gone, Earache and Prosthetic Records.
