Spoek Mathambo
Spoek Mathambo is the stage name of Nthato Mokgata, a South African artist, producer, singer-songwriter and rapper from Soweto. Born in 1985, he works across hip hop, electronic music, experimental sounds, dancehall and African-influenced styles, and is associated with electro, electronica, hip hop, pop and techno.
Style and work
He becomes known in the late 2000s for blending a wide range of musical influences into a distinctive sound. He coins the term “Township Tech” for this approach. His work as a DJ also includes the HIVIP project, which promotes South African music.
Projects and collaborations
Mathambo serves as frontman for the electrorap acts SWEAT.X and Playdoe. He is also linked with Playdoe as a member. His music activity brings him wider international attention, and his DJ work takes him to Norway, France, Sweden and Germany.

His HIVIP project attracts attention from publications including the New York Times and Fader Magazine.
