Spirytus
Spirytus is a Nottingham-based metal group whose sound combines nu metal, rapcore, metalcore and alternative metal. The band features Ryan Walton on vocals, Andy K on lead guitar, Adam Burman on rhythm guitar, Ben Edis on bass and Ben Mclonan on drums.
Style and sound
The group draws on the contrasts of heavy riffs, funk-influenced bass lines, fast drumming and aggressive vocals. Their music is described as combining the impact of Korn with the more varied approach of Faith No More, while also using seven- and eight-string guitars and technically involved playing. They also cover songs such as The Prodigy’s Breathe, reworking it in a heavier metal style.
Performances and recognition
Spirytus attracts support slots with artists including Hed PE, American Head Charge and Shadows Fall. Ryan Walton also shares a live connection with Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, who introduces the band warmly after jamming with Walton at Download Festival and again at the London Astoria in 2009.
Release and production
The band’s self-titled album is produced by Jason Wilcock, whose credits include Fightstar, You Me At Six and Cars On Fire.
