Speedy Ortiz

Speedy Ortiz are an American indie rock band from Northampton, United States. The group begins in 2011 as Sadie Dupuis’ solo project, when she is teaching songwriting at a summer camp and recording her own material on a laptop. The band is active from 2011 to the present and includes Sadie Dupuis, Joey Doubek, Andy Molholt, Darl Ferm, Devin McKnight and Matt Robidoux.

Style and sound

The band is associated with alternative rock, indie rock and noise pop, with tags also placing them in indie, grunge and noise rock. Their sound is described in terms of guitar dissonance and abrasive, anti-anthem writing, with comparisons made to older Boston bands such as Kudgel and Swirlies, and to Rob Crow’s earlier work in Thingy.

Releases

Speedy Ortiz release the 10-inch EP Sports on Exploding in Sound Records. Their album Major Arcana appears on Carpark Records, followed by the Real Hair EP in February 2014.
