Spectrals is the recording name used by Louis Jones, a one-man band from Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom. Under this name, he records skewed, reverb-heavy songs that combine 1960s doo wop, Brill Building pop, and garage rock, with surf guitar touches.

Early recordings and singles

Spectrals' 7-inch single “Leave Me Be” appears in 2009 on Captured Tracks. In the following year, Jones issues split singles with Fair Ohs on Tough Love and Mazes on Love Is Disgusting; both releases include two of his songs. Later that year, Slumberland releases “7th Date” as a coloured 7-inch single.

Albums and recording approach

Jones records almost everything himself, although his younger brother plays drums on some recordings. His first album, Bad Penny, comes out in late 2011 on Slumberland in the US and Wichita in the UK. The album again features his brother on drums and is produced by Richard Formby.

Live work

Although Spectrals begins as a solo recording project, Jones later forms a live band and tours extensively, including a tour with Girls.
