Sourvein

Sourvein is an American doom and sludge metal group from the United States. It forms in Cape Fear, North Carolina in 1993 and remains active.

Style and background

The band works in doom metal, sludge metal, stoner metal and stoner doom, and it is also described as a doom rock band. Its sound sits within the wider American heavy underground associated with these styles.

Line-up

The group includes Troy Medlin, Ramzi Ateyeh and Jimmy Bower. Medlin performs vocals, Ateyeh is on drums, and James Haun is listed on guitars. The band also has a long history of other players across guitar, bass and drums, including former members such as Liz Buckingham, Mike “Sleepy” Floyd, Josh C., Charlie Mack, Slim Spencer, Miguel Veliz, Dave “Dixie” Collins, Dan Luper, Boone Doom, Jeffrey “Kong” Moan, Henry Vasquez, Hotlanta Cojones, Cool Clyde, Will Sprague, Ashley Williamson and Joel Martin. Touring and recording musicians include Dave Scrod, Todd Kiessling, Scott Renner and Reed Mullin.

Releases

Sourvein issues four full-length albums and three EPs, alongside numerous splits. Its early releases include a split with Buzzoven, He's No Good to Me Dead with Negative Reaction, Grief, Subsanity and Bongzilla, and the self-titled album also known as Salvation. Later albums include Will to Mangle, Black Fangs and Aquatic Occult. The EPs listed are Emerald Vulture, Ghetto Angel and Imperial Bastard.

Collaborations and split releases

The band has a substantial split-discography, including releases with Rabies Caste, Church of Misery, Blood Island Raiders, Coffins and Graves at Sea.
