Sound Nomaden

Sound Nomaden is a music project based in Münster, Germany. It begins in 2008 as the one-person project of Tobi, a producer, musician and DJ who also uses it as a platform for collaborations with other artists and musicians. Before starting the project, he plays in different bands and projects and DJing at many parties and clubs in Münster’s underground scene.

Style and influences

Tobi describes the project’s approach as Global Beats: a mix of traditional sounds and music from different cultures, continents and genres with modern club rhythms. The music draws on electro swing, dancefloor jazz, Favela funk, Balkan beats, klezmer, Brazilectro, digital cumbia, Arabian and African grooves, reggae, dub and breakbeats. The project’s DJ sets are presented as dance-focused sets that bring together sounds from underground club scenes around the world.

Releases and collaborations

The first maxi-single appears in 2011 on Mushroom Lounge Recordings, an independent label based in Montreal. It focuses on the swing era, updating 1930s sounds for the dancefloor with house, hip hop and electro beats. Tobi also works on remixes for Pachazonica, Al Jawala and Adham Shaikh. At the time described in the bio, he is working on his first full-length album.
