Soom T

Soom T is a Glasgow-born punk rock and reggae artist from the United Kingdom, born in 1979. She is known for a distinctive voice and for lyrics that often carry political and spiritual themes. Her writing is described as poetic and intelligent, and she builds a cult following through infrequent public appearances and performances that draw audiences from multiple countries.

Recording career

Since 1999, Soom T has released around 40 records. Her work spans reggae, dub and electronic music, and she is associated with the Jahtari label. She also helps define a style she calls Digital Laptop Reggae, developed through recording work that suits her vocal approach.

Collaborations and projects

Her collaborations include Monkeytribe, The Orb, T.Raumschmiere, King Creosote, Miss Kittin, Puppetmastaz, Jazz.K.Lippa, Potentz, Tolcha, DJ Maxximus, DJ Yoda and Bus. She also has remixes by Asian Dub Foundation, Pole and Techno Animal, with the latter appearing under the name Sub Species.

Other projects include recordings with Mungo's Hi Fi, The Burns Unit, and the project No Step, made with ex-Senser producer and production partner Hagos. She and Hagos run the label No Step Productions. She also records with Disrupt, with releases under both Soom T & Disrupt and The Source, and with label mates Maffi.
