Solitary

Solitary are a thrash metal band from Preston, Lancashire, in the United Kingdom, formed in 1994. The line-up is Richard Sherrington on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Andrew Mellor on lead guitar, David Cunningham on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Roy Miller on drums and percussion.

Early years and recording

The band signs to UK label Holier Than Thou Records in 1997 and first appears on the label’s compilation Genetically Fresh. That release brings them attention from the JMG Agency, which arranges support slots with Kill 2 This, Reign and Deranged from Sweden. The following year, the band records Nothing Changes, which is released in November 1998. Solitary then tour the UK twice in support of the album.

Return and later work

In 2008, Solitary return signed to Corpro Records and release Requiem. The album develops a heavier direction with grittier vocals and is made over a four-year period marked by personal highs and lows. It includes a guest vocal appearance from Chris Astley of Xentrix on the track “Hatred” and a cover of Testament’s “Into the Pit”.

After a UK tour covering Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth, the band begins writing a third album.
