Solarstone

Solarstone is a trance group from Birmingham, United Kingdom, active since 1994. The project is made up of Rich Mowatt, Andy Bury and Sam Tierney, although Bury is listed as part of the group from 1994 to 2006 and Tierney from 1994 to 1997. Solarstone works in trance, and is also associated with melodic trance, progressive trance, uplifting trance, progressive house, chillout and electronic music.

History and aliases

Solarstone forms around Rich Mowatt, Andy Bury and Sam Tierney, and releases music under that name from 1994 onwards. The project also uses a number of aliases, including Young Parisians, Z2, Liquid State, Skyscraper, 2nd Element and Sebatu. Solarstone also produces three collaborations with Scott Bond. In 2011, Rich Mowatt starts the Federation project with Ben Lost, issuing tracks on the Perfecto Fluoro label.

Releases and notable tracks

Among Solarstone’s best-known releases are Seven Cities, Solarcoaster, Late Summer Fields, The Calling, Rain Stars Eternal and 4Ever. These titles are presented as the project’s most popular releases.

Labels, radio and related projects

Solarstone’s label activity includes co-owning Solaris Recordings, running the experimental Molecule Recordings, the Crashing Waves label and Touchstone Recordings, which launches in 2012. Earlier label interests include co-owning Deep Blue Records from 1999 to 2008 and running Insatiable Records, which later becomes solarSwarm Recordings, described as a social network record label. Rich Mowatt also presents the weekly Solaris International radio show on AH.fm and on more than 50 other FM stations. The show is previously co-hosted with Robbie Nelson of Agnelli & Nelson under the name Deepblue Radio Show, runs for more than six years and reaches its 300th edition in 2012.
