Sofie Birch

Sofie Birch is a Copenhagen-based composer whose work sits in ambient, drone, free folk and progressive electronic music. She is known for building collage-like pieces from synthesiser tones, harmonies and organic sound sources, creating music that combines dreamlike qualities with experimental structure.

Early releases and recorded work

Birch releases her first cassette EP, Sketchy Commodity, in 2017 on the Danish label Infinite Waves. Her debut album, Doldreams, continues the same approach, expanding her experimental style through layered soundscapes.

Sound and performance

Her music uses elements such as flourishing strings, soft vocals, chimes, birds, creaks and sustained synth lines. She studies sound design and has a bachelor degree in the subject, which informs her focus on the structure of sound. In performance, she works with both improvisation and composed material, often starting from simple melodic patterns that develop into changing ambient textures.

Musical approach

Birch’s compositions often move between ambient and experimental territory. Her live work responds to audience impulses and aims to create a calm space that balances spiritual and secular qualities.
