Snowman

Snowman is an Australian alternative rock and indie rock group from Perth, active from 2003 to 2011. The band consists of Andy Citawarman and Joe McKee. It begins in Perth in 2002 and later bases itself in London.

Style and releases

Snowman works in an ambient, tribal and noise-influenced style, and its sound is also described as tribal, hypnotic, futurist and mechanical. Its releases include the 2004 EP Zombies on the Airwaves of Paris, the 2006 self-titled album Snowman, and The Horse, The Rat And The Swan in 2008. The latter receives an 8.0 review from Pitchfork Media and appears in its honourable mentions for the 50 best albums of 2008.

Activities and collaborations

Before the London move, Snowman gives concerts with visuals and takes part in a range of festivals and events in Poland, including the International Film Festival One Minute, Malta Festival – New Waves, Gdynia Summer Jazz Days, Union of Rock and Central European Festival of Alternative Music Globalbeat. The group also supports Archive and Karate in concert.

Snowman works with the alternative theatre MOUTH TO MOUTH, providing live music for performances and writing soundtracks for Driver, Cadillac and Alice 0 700 188 188. It also composes music for The shine through, two etudes by Mariusz Suszek, and a silent screening of F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu: Symphony of Horrors. Alongside other artists, the members run the Association For Young Artists V.I.T.R.I.O.L. and take part in wider cultural events, including poetry meetings and exhibitions.

Recognition

The band wins The Young Polish Bands Festival in December 2005.
