Snoh Aalegra

Snoh Aalegra is a Swedish R&B and soul artist from Uppsala, Sweden, who is based in Los Angeles. Her sound is associated with alternative R&B, contemporary R&B, R&B, soul and trip hop. She is born in 1987.

Early career

She starts writing songs at the age of 9. In 2001 she signs an artist development deal with Sony Music Sweden, although no music is released during that period. In 2009 she begins releasing music under the name Sheri and later issues her first album, First Sign, with Universal Music Sweden. Two singles from that period are “Hit and Run” and “You Got Me Good”.

Name change and releases

In 2013 she signs to ARTium Recordings, which is associated with producer No I.D. In July 2014 she adopts the name Snoh Aalegra and later that year releases her first EP, There Will Be Sunshine. Her second EP, Don’t Explain, follows in April 2016. In October 2016 she releases her debut album, FEELS, which she describes as “cinematic soul” and which becomes her break-through release.

Later albums and collaborations

Her song “Time” is sampled in Drake’s “Do Not Disturb”. Apple also uses “Nothing Burns Like The Cold” in commercials for the iPhone XS. In August 2019 she releases her second album, -Ugh, Those Feels Again, which reaches number 3 on the Billboard R&B Album Sales chart, number 6 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and number 73 on the Billboard 200. In March 2020 she signs a recording contract with Roc Nation and Universal Music Group in addition to her ARTium Records deal. She then releases “Dying 4 Your Love” under those labels in 2020. Her third studio album, TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES, follows in 2021 and includes features from Tyler, the Creator on two tracks, with the singles “D4YL” and “Lost You”. The album reaches number 16 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Awards

She wins the Skap Soulpris in 2019 and the Soul Train Award for Best New Artist in 2020. In 2021 she wins iHeartRadio’s Best New R&B Artist award and is nominated for iHeart R&B Artist of the Year.
