Smithfield

Smithfield is a country duo from the United States, active since 2011. The act consists of Trey Smith and Jennifer Fielder, who both grow up in Waxahachie, Texas. Their partnership draws on a long family connection: their grandparents know each other from high school, and the families remain close across generations. Smith and Fielder meet when she is 10 years old, and the pair later develop their own musical collaboration from that shared background.

Formation and style

Smithfield form in 2011 and build a sound around harmony-led songwriting. The duo works without a lead singer or a principal songwriter, with both members sharing vocal and writing duties equally. Their songs focus on love, loss and everyday life from both sides of a relationship. Although their sound is rooted in country, it also reflects elements of pop and rock.

Members

Jennifer Fielder begins performing at a young age, touring regionally from the age of nine and singing traditional country material at small-town Opry events across Texas. Trey Smith grows up on rock music, listening to bands such as Boston and the Goo Goo Dolls. He starts writing songs as a teenager and forms his first rock band in college.

Move to Nashville and recognition

The duo move to Nashville in 2012 and develop their music there. Their songs include “Hey Whiskey” and “We’ll Figure It Out”, and they achieve substantial digital streaming success and repeated appearances at the Grand Ole Opry. They also receive airplay on satellite radio and attention from Rolling Stone, Billboard, People Country and Forbes.

Live work

Smithfield also tour as support for a range of major country acts, including Brothers Osborne, Scotty McCreery, Morgan Wallen, Kane Brown, Sara Evans, Josh Turner, Dustin Lynch and Old Dominion.
