Small Brown Bike

Small Brown Bike are a post-hardcore band from Marshall, United States. They form in 1996 and split in 2004, then reunite in 2009. The group consists of Ben Reed, Mike Reed, Dan Jaquint and Travis Dopp.

Sound and name

The band is known for its twin-vocal approach, with two voices carried over melodic guitar lines. Their style is often compared with other post-hardcore groups such as Avail and Hot Water Music. The name comes from the members’ work as bike mechanics.

Activity and related projects

Their last show before the split takes place in 2004 at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago, after the band has already agreed to end. Afterward, Mike Reed and Dan Jaquint form LaSalle, with Reed’s wife on bass guitar. Jeff, Mike and Ben later start Able Baker Fox with Nathan Ellis of The Casket Lottery. Ben Reed and Mike Reed also play in 84 Tigers.

Recordings

Small Brown Bike release a series of EPs, splits and albums across the late 1990s and 2000s, including No Place Like You, ...And Don’t Forget Me, Our Own Wars, Dead Reckoning, The River Bed and Nail Yourself To The Ground. They also release Composite in 2009, Fell & Found in 2011 on No Idea Records, and Recollected in 2013.
