Slynk is an EDM artist from Australia and Canada whose work sits in funk, breaks, funky breaks, Australian funk and big beat. Evan Chandler is identified with the project, and Slynk develops a style rooted in production, DJing and vinyl culture.

Early development

Slynk is born in 1986 and starts teaching himself how to make music while still at school. He begins by producing funk-influenced tracks in his bedroom, and in 2004 he receives his first pair of decks as a gift, which leads to a strong interest in vinyl.

Residency and DJ work

In 2006, Slynk secures his first residency in Brisbane, Australia, where he DJs every Friday night at a New York-style café underground. He stays there for close to two years, using the residency to experiment and refine his skills.

Breakthrough

By April 2008, local DJ agencies discover him, and he begins playing at major funky venues in Brisbane. Over the following 12 months, he moves from being a bedroom DJ to one of Australia’s leading funky breaks DJs and producers.

Collaborators and support

Slynk plays interstate and overseas with support from several established DJs and producers, including A Skillz of Finger Lickin’, Fort Knox Five, Freddy Fresh Worldwide, Craig Charles of BBC 6Music, DJ Moneyshot of Solid Steel, and others.
