Sleep Theory

Sleep Theory is an American band from Memphis, Tennessee, active since 2019. It is based around Cullen Moore and releases music on Epitaph. The band’s sound is described as drawing on alternative metal, hard rock, nu metal and rock, with material that also combines metal, R&B, pop, funk and bluesy grooves.

Formation and lineup

Moore starts Sleep Theory as a solo studio project after retiring from the US Army. He initially builds the project around his interest in hard rock, funk and R&B. A chance meeting with bassist Paolo Vergara, who has recently moved from the Philippines, turns the project into a duo. The line-up later expands into a full band with guitarist Daniel Pruitt and drummer Ben Pruitt.

Releases and profile

The band’s debut single, “Another Way,” reaches over 1.5 million streams across platforms and establishes the group’s early profile. Sleep Theory also develops a reputation locally in Memphis as its blend of heavy riffs, breakdowns and pop-oriented hooks gains attention.
