Slavoj Žižek
Slavoj Žižek is a Slovene sociologist, philosopher and cultural critic from Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is born in 1949 and receives a Doctor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Ljubljana. He also studies psychoanalysis at the University of Paris VIII with Jacques-Alain Miller and François Regnault.
Žižek is known for using the work of Jacques Lacan to develop new readings of popular culture. His writing covers a wide range of subjects, including fundamentalism, tolerance, political correctness, globalization, subjectivity, human rights, Lenin, myth, cyberspace, postmodernism, multiculturalism, post-marxism, David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock.
In 1990, he stands as a candidate for the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia in the election for the Presidency of the Republic of Slovenia.
