Skibunny

Skibunny is a group active since 2005, built around Mark and Tanya. The act begins as DJs and remixers and later presents a live band, drawing on alternative and electronic pop influences. Its sound is described as dark electronic pop with an uplifting edge, with references to Joy Division, Four Tet and The Cure.

DJs, remixers and promoters

As DJs, Skibunny tour in Japan, the USA, Europe and the UK. They appear at festivals including Glastonbury’s Dance East stage, Oxegen’s MTV stage, T in the Park and Rockness. As producers, they remix Paloma Faith, Tilly and the Wall, Forward Russia and Robots in Disguise. As promoters, they organise debut Belfast shows for acts including The Go! Team, James Yuill and Kidda.

Live performances and collaborations

As a live band, Skibunny perform alongside Casiokids, Holy F**K, Bonde Do Role and David Holmes. Tanya contributes vocals to two tracks on David Holmes’ LP The Holy Pictures. The band also releases two 7-inch singles.

Festival appearances and touring

In 2009, Skibunny showcase at Canadian Music Week in Toronto and are named by the Toronto Independent Music Awards as one of the festival’s must-see bands. They play six shows at SXSW in Austin and also perform with The Mae Shi. In the UK, they play a capacity crowd at The Camden Crawl. Later that period, they play and DJ at selected festivals including a main stage DJ slot at Bestival, between Doves and Fleet Foxes, and they also return to the US for CMJ in New York.

Releases

By the end of 2009, Skibunny complete their debut LP. They continue remixing and appear on releases by Dag for Dag, Tilly and the Wall and ASIWYFA. An EP is issued on Smalltown America Records in 2010, followed by a debut album later that year.

Recognition

The NME describes them as Belfast’s leading remixers, promoters and crowd-stirrers.
