Sinister Souls

Sinister Souls are a Dutch electronic group from Utrecht, active since 2009. The project is built around Adriaan de Koning and Fred Huurdeman, who work together on the act’s output and performances.

Style and influences

The group moves between dubstep, darkstep, drum and bass, crossbreed and neurofunk. Their sound develops from darker drum and bass before they focus on their own take on heavy dubstep. They draw influence from breakcore, drum and bass, rave and techno.

Releases

Their first full-length album is Beat the Drum Hard, released in 2012 on PRSPCT Recordings. Their second album, Horns Up, also appears on the Rotterdam label. Their debut release is the Definition of Silence EP on Rottun Recordings, which reaches the top five in download charts and receives worldwide support. They later issue further material on SCUM, Mindtrick, Section8, Dub Bullet and PRSPCT Recordings.

Label and live work

Sinister Souls become part of the PRSPCT circle and play at shows organised by PRSPCT in the Netherlands and across Europe. In 2010 they are asked to remix the Q-Base Festival anthem in Germany.

Reception

Their tracks receive support from artists including Excision, Black Sun Empire, Borgore, SPL, Culprate, Balkansky / Cooh and Point.Blank, among others. The act is also described as one of the harder Dutch dubstep acts.
