Sinden

Sinden is a UK producer and DJ, identified as Graeme Sinden. He works across club, funk and jump up, and is known for remixes, productions, mash-ups and DJ sets that draw on a wide range of club styles.

Remixing and production

From spring 2005, Sinden remixes artists including Lady Sovereign, Lethal Bizzle, Plan B, Basement Jaxx, Chromeo, Bugz In The Attic, Switch, Bonde Do Role, Mr Hudson & The Library and Mark Ronson. He also collaborates on original material with Solid Groove, Jesse Rose, Hervé and Trevor Loveys. His production work begins through a close musical partnership with Dave “Switch” Taylor, who helps him learn production; together they form A.Brucker & Sinden and make progressive hip-hop, dancehall beats and other hybrid club tracks.

Radio, club work and residencies

In September 2006, Sinden begins presenting a show on Kiss in the UK, airing overnight from Wednesday into Thursday. The programme is described as the first in the UK to present a broad mix that includes funk carioca, Baltimore club, kuduro, juke house, southern hip hop, dancehall and house/electro. He is also a resident DJ at Fabric in London, and from January 2007 he and Switch programme and DJ the club’s main room under the title Get Familiar on a bi-monthly basis.

He is also a resident at Basement Jaxx’s Inside Out night in Brixton, where he is the only resident alongside Felix and Simon. That residency runs for a year and a half.

Touring and projects

Sinden tours internationally, playing in Australia, Canada, the United States, Israel and across Europe. He is recruited as MIA’s tour DJ for 2007 and plays shows with her in support of Kala. He also launches Counterfeet, a label he runs with Dave Taylor, in March 2006. The label is set up to release club music with an open-minded approach; its first release features collaborations with A.Brucker and Solid Groove, and its second release is the Radioclit EP Mature Macho Machine. He also completes the Count of Monte Cristal and Sinden album project.

Style

His DJ sets combine house and electro with Baltimore club, baile funk, hip hop, R&B/soul, dancehall, mash-ups, global rhythms, Miami bass and grime, giving his work a broad and genre-crossing character.
