Sin City

Sin City is a name used by more than one act. One is an AC/DC-styled rock and roll band from Germany, which has used the name for 15 years. Another is a Melbourne band described as playing punk, grunge and power pop, with references in its history to hard rock, heavy metal and soundtrack-related tagging.

Melbourne band

The Melbourne version of Sin City begins in Perth, Western Australia, where the band first performs under the name Local Pricks before relocating to Melbourne in April 2004. It then builds a reputation as a touring group, playing around 500 shows and touring continuously across Australia.

The band releases a self-titled EP and a debut album called Hungry For Love. Hungry For Love has 12 tracks and is recorded at Sing Sing Studios with producer Tony Cohen, who wins an ARIA award. The album appears on the Melbourne label High Voltage Records. Before the album, the band releases the EP Sweet Lies and the singles Rest In Pieces, Love Bite and Summer Love Song, and is reported to have sold 5,000 units through DIY activity.

The self-titled EP is recorded with Brisbane producer Stuart Stuart. The band is also known for support slots with The Misfits, UK Subs, Guitar Wolf, DOA, Guttermouth, Cosmic Psychos and Anti Nowhere League. In addition, it shares stages with Jet, Sham 69, The Queers, Strung Out and Gyroscope, and appears at festivals including the Big Day Out.

Critical reactions cited for the band include descriptions of the debut album as “the new blood we need” and “one of the most exciting bands in years.”
