Simon Taylor is a UK trumpeter. His work focuses on the contrast between imagined rural refuge and the absence of lasting meaning in contemporary society, often treating questions of beauty, individual taste and escape to the countryside. He approaches these ideas with detached humour and a self-aware sense of contradiction.

He has spent much of his life in Ashfield, in Western Massachusetts, where his immediate family lives, and he also has strong ties to Rowe. Rowe is known for its former nuclear power plant and its picnic grounds. These places shape the atmosphere behind his music, which often reflects on pastoral imagery and the limits of personal imagination.

One of his better-known pieces is Avi in Space, which presents theoretical and sentimental themes within a light, artificial frame.
