Simon Baker
Simon Baker is a UK DJ and producer based in London and originally based in Leeds, Northern England. He also records under the alias BKR Projekt. His work spans dance, deep house, deep tech, disco, EDM and electronica, and he is associated with minimal techno, minimal house and deep house.
Early releases and aliases
Baker first gains wider attention through a debut recording issued under the Liptrick alias with Alex Grzybowski. The release appears in the collections of Tiefschwarz, Damian Lazarus, Groove Armada and Dan Ghenacia, and it leads to a recording deal with Ralph Lawson’s 2020 Vision label for an album project. The follow-up, the Smack The Rat EP, also finds underground support and receives Top Tune of the Month in IDJ and a Sure Player mention in DJ Magazine.
Plastik and later work
He becomes known to a broader audience through Plastik, released on Playhouse, which gains support from artists including Sven Väth and Sasha and is voted number three track of the year by Resident Advisor. He also contributes an exclusive track to the Cocoon box set, remixes Simian Mobile Disco and Radioslave’s Bell Clap Dance, and issues remixes on 2020 Vision, Saved Records, Soundplant and Viva, among others. He is also signed to the German label Connaisseur for The Fly and to Leftroom Records for X Y & Z, while his imprint Infant Records is also part of his profile.
DJ work and residencies
Baker holds residencies at several UK underground house nights, including Asylum and Technique at The Warehouse in Leeds, and DDD at The Key in London. He is also chosen by Steve Lawler as a worldwide support DJ and is tipped by DJ Mag as one to watch for 2005.
