Silverlake

Silverlake refers to more than one artist. One version of the name is used by a project that grows out of the seven-piece pop act Vivarama, formed by Robin Dallaway, who has also been associated with Cravats and The Very Things. This Silverlake project takes inspiration from funky house, trip-hop, cool jazz and 1980s retro electronica, and it describes its own move into making music on an Apple computer as a key turning point in its development.

The project’s recorded work is framed around electronic styles including electronica, house, pop, trip-hop and electro-house. Its image and writing present it as a journey into “audio possibilities,” with the songs built from a mix of dance music and atmospheric influences.

There is also a band called Silverlake from The Hague in the Netherlands. That group plays a raw rock style with references to Pearl Jam, the Black Crowes and Fuel. It appears at Parkpop, the large free festival in Europe, in 2003 and 2004, and has a loyal following in the Netherlands. Its official debut album is Nothing In Between.
