Silverbacks

Silverbacks are a five-piece indie and post-punk group with origins in Johannesburg. They form around brothers Daniel O’Kelly and Kilian O’Kelly, who both play guitar and sing. The line-up also includes Peader Kearney on guitar, Emma Hanlon on bass and vocals, and Gary Wickham on drums.

The group’s sound combines interlocking guitar parts with lyrics that take a critical view of popular culture. Their early recordings are produced by Daniel Fox of Girl Band, who also produces the band’s debut album, Fad. Their first singles, “Dunkirk” and “Just in the Band,” appear in 2018, and Fad follows in 2020.

Silverbacks are associated with indie rock, art punk, crank wave and post-brexit new wave.
