Silencer

Silencer is a black metal group originating in Denver, United States, and active from 1998 to the present. The name is also used by another act, but the metal band is the one associated with depressive black metal, black metal and suicidal black metal.

Swedish black metal band

Silencer begins as a solo project founded in Stockholm in 1995 by guitarist Leere. It later expands into a duo when vocalist Nattramn joins. The line-up includes session drummer Jonas Mattsson of Nominon on the one-track demo Death - Pierce Me, released at the end of 1998. That recording leads to a deal with the German label Prophecy Productions in 1999.

Recording for the full-length Death - Pierce Me takes place in July 2000 with Steve Wolz, who also plays drums for Bethlehem, Angel and Imperia. The album appears in October 2001 and by that point the group has already disbanded. A vinyl edition is also issued in a limited run of 200 copies.

Leere, also known as Casado, later joins the Swedish black metal band Shining in 2005, with whom he already has a close connection. After some touring that same year, he leaves the band. Silencer later develops a cult reputation in the black metal underground despite being defunct.

Other act using the name

Another Silencer is a breaks and breakbeat DJ duo made up of Force Mass Motion and Dylan Rhymes. They first work under the name Force Mass Motion vs. Dylan Rhymes before changing to Silencer. This project is generally active between 2002 and 2004 and releases one album, Signals, as well as singles and appearances on compilations and mixes.
