Siege are a punk group from Weymouth, United States. They are associated with the 1980s Boston hardcore scene and are active from 1983 to 2023.

Overview

Siege are known as an American hardcore punk band from Weymouth, Massachusetts. Their sound is described as an extreme form of hardcore punk, with very fast tempos, abrupt chord changes, harsh vocals and blast beats. This approach places them among the early bands that help shape grindcore.

Influence

Although they are short-lived and relatively little known during their original period of activity, Siege become a significant influence on later heavy punk and extreme music. Among the bands that cite them are Napalm Death and Dropdead. Dropdead take their name from the title of a Siege demo.

Members associated with the group include Kurt Habelt, Kevin Mahoney, Henry McNamee, Robert Williams, Seth Putnam, Chris Leamy, Mark Fields and Ben Barnett.

The name Siege also applies to several other acts, including a self-described “True Hampshire Heavy Metal” band from near Winchester, a UK DJ, and a raw American Oi band with Celtic influence.
