Side A

Side A is a Filipino band from Manila, Philippines, active since 1985. It is associated with opm and pop, and the group is known for romantic ballads and live performances.

History

The band forms in 1985 and performs at the Calesa Music Bar and Lounge at the Hyatt Regency in Pasay City between 1986 and 1989. In 1987, it records its first song, “Eva Marie”, written by Joey Benin. In 1989, it records its first self-titled album.

Breakthrough recordings

In 1994, Side A releases “Forevermore”, which becomes its best-known song. The track is certified 8x platinum, with sales of over 80,000 units, and wins Song of the Year at the Awit Awards in 1995.

Members

The band’s line-up includes Kelly Badon. A later roster also includes Joey Generoso on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Naldy Gonzalez on keyboard and vocals, Ernie Severino on drums and vocals, Leevon Cailao on lead guitar and vocals, and Ned Esguerra on bass and vocals.

Later activity and separate act

Side A continues as an active band. The name also appears in connection with a separate free jazz trio featuring reed player Ken Vandermark, pianist Havard Wiik and drummer Chad Taylor, whose debut album, A New Margin, appears in 2011.
