Sianed Jones is a UK-based fiddling and Welsh singing composer, performer and collaborator whose work crosses music, theatre, film and site-specific performance.
Work and collaborations
She works with artists from different disciplines and cultures, including choreographers Tina Razafi and writers such as Cris Cheek. Her film work includes collaborations with Mike Figgis and Warner Bros. In theatre, she works with Welfare State International, IOU, Sadista Sisters, the Royal Shakespeare Company, storyteller Ben Haggarty and the site-specific theatre company Brith Gof.
As a musician, she shares stages and collaborates with improvisers and jazz players including Max Eastley, Clive Bell, Eric Truffaz, Jan Bang, Arve Henriksen, Andy Sheppard and Barbara Thomson. Her other collaborators include turntable artist Philip Jeck and instrument maker Will Menter.
Performance and research
Jones receives recognition for work that pushes at ideas, technique and her own performance practice. Her vocal research takes her to Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Her composition and performance draw on these travels and experiences, while remaining rooted in her own style.
She tours in Europe, America, Russia and Mongolia. Her upbringing is shaped by the choral and poetic traditions of Wales, and she later travels widely, including experiences in Madagascar, the Gobi desert, Egypt and the region between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
