Shutter
Shutter is the name used by several groups, including an instrumental post-rock quartet from Inverness, Scotland; a band from the Hunter Valley in Australia; and an alternative rock band from New Jersey in the United States. The tag profile also places Shutter in post-rock, modern rock, hard rock, instrumental and post-grunge.
Inverness, Scotland
The Inverness group forms in August 2004 and consists of guitarists Matt Campbell and Peter Macdonald, with brothers James Roberts on bass and William Roberts on drums. It is an instrumental post-rock quartet from the Highlands of Scotland. During its active period, it builds a live reputation and supports acts including Deftones and Pelican. Its debut album, Pillars, appears in 2010. After a period of inactivity following 2013, the band reunites in 2022 for a show at The Ironworks, a venue whose opening night it also plays 16 years earlier, and it continues to play live sporadically.
William Roberts later plays in Edinburgh-based band We Came From The North. Peter Macdonald and Matt Campbell also play in the Inverness-based post-grunge band The Little Mill of Happiness.
Hunter Valley, Australia
The Hunter Valley Shutter consists of Aidan, Dylan, Jacob and Matt. It releases an EP in 2007 and is influenced by Incubus, Grinspoon, Silverchair and the Klaxons.
New Jersey, United States
The New Jersey Shutter is an alternative rock band led by vocalist Jon Correa, with guitarist Gavin Shields, bassist Dawid Warchol and drummer Teresa Marinuzzi. Its sound combines shoegaze, grunge and early 2000s alt-rock.
