Shogun

Shogun is the trance project of Andrew Chen, an American-born Taiwanese DJ and producer from the United States. He works in trance and progressive trance, and he is also associated with electronic music more broadly.

Background and work as a DJ

Chen builds music from an early interest in computer-based production, moving from simple software to Logic Pro and studying music theory. In 2006, he graduates with an audio engineering degree from SAE Institute of Technology. He later serves as a resident DJ at Ministry of Sound Nightclub, where he plays alongside Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold and BT. His sets are broadcast live on Ministry of Sound Radio.

Radio shows and broadcasts

Shogun’s mixes air on several radio stations, including Digitally Imported, Globalbeats.fm, Sense.FM and Discover Trance Radio. He also presents a long-running radio show called Trancemission on Ensonic Radio, as well as a syndicated show titled The White Room Episodes.

Productions and releases

His productions attract support from DJs within the trance scene. Aly & Fila feature “Nowhere To Run” on their 100th episode of Future Sound of Egypt Radio Show. His tracks “Nadia” and “Connected” are picked up by Armada, and his earlier releases “Panic Room” and “AT3” are featured by Paul Van Dyk on Vonyc Sessions.

Additional context

The name Shogun is also used by several other artists in different genres, including drum and bass, rap, metalcore and heavy metal, but this Shogun refers to Andrew Chen’s trance alias.
