Shlohmo
Shlohmo is the professional name of Henry Laufer, an American musician and producer from Los Angeles. Born in 1990, he works in downtempo, electronic, experimental and glitch-hop-influenced styles, and is known for an experimental production approach that sits within the Los Angeles beat and electronic scene.
Career
He first draws wider attention in 2011 with Bad Vibes, his debut full-length album. The record receives critical acclaim from outlets including Pitchfork and Resident Advisor and establishes his use of lo-fi beats, atmospheric textures and detailed sound design. He follows it with a series of EPs, including Vacation in 2012 and Laid Out in 2013.
Shlohmo also builds a reputation as a remixer, reworking tracks such as Drake and The Weeknd’s “Crew Love”, and as a producer for singles including “Brain” by Banks. In 2014, he collaborates with R&B singer Jeremih on the EP No More. His second studio album, Dark Red, appears in 2015 and presents a darker and heavier sound. He later produces for artists including Post Malone, Tory Lanez, Lil Yachty, Corbin, formerly known as Spooky Black, and Yung Lean.
His third studio album, The End, follows in 2019. Across his career, he also releases a number of collaborative mixtapes and helps to found the record label Wedidit Records, which becomes an influential outlet linked to his work and to the wider scene around him.
