Shirley Bassey

Shirley Bassey is a Welsh singer from Cardiff who is associated with big band, classic rock, easy listening, jazz, pop and pop soul. She is widely known for her performances of James Bond film theme songs, including Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker. She is the only singer to record more than one James Bond theme song.

Career

Born in 1937, Bassey builds one of the longest-running careers in British popular music. She lives in Monaco. She also sells her London apartment, with many of its furnishings later auctioned for charity.

Her television appearances include two editions of Audiences With Shirley Bassey broadcast on British television, with the later programme airing in March 2006. In 2006, Marks and Spencer uses her in a Christmas advertising campaign, and she records a cover of P!nk’s Get the Party Started.

Recording work

In 2009, Bassey releases The Performance, her first studio album for two decades. Her career remains closely identified with her vocal performances and with her long-standing place in British popular culture.
