Shem

Shem is a collective of musicians based in Stuttgart, Germany, making improvised psychedelic rock. The project is also associated with dubstep.

Separate from the German collective, there is also a DJ and electronic music artist called Shem, born in 1987 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in southwestern Connecticut. He develops a style centred on electronic dance music, drawing on trance, tech house, dubstep, drum and bass and tribal, and cites early exposure to dance music through radio, later interest in trance in the late 1990s, and an interest in house music from around 2005.

The DJ’s influences include Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Cosmic Gate, Svenson & Gielen, Sander van Doorn, Marco V and Marcel Woods, alongside other hard trance artists. His background also includes listening to 1990s dance and freestyle, and hip hop artists such as Nas, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, Eminem, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg.
