S.H.E

S.H.E is a Taiwanese mandopop group formed in 2001 and active since then. It consists of 陳嘉樺 (Ella Chen), 任家萱 (Selina Ren), and 田馥甄 (Hebe Tien), and the name is an alphabetism formed from the first letter of each member’s name. The group is signed to HIM華研國際.

History

In 2000, the three members take part in the talent competition 宇宙2000實力美少女爭霸戰 and are signed by Grand Music, which becomes HIM International Music in 2001. They make their official debut on 11 September 2001 with the album 女生宿舍 (Girls' Dorm).

Commercial success and touring

S.H.E records global album sales of over 16 million copies and at one point ranks seventh in the world for album sales among girl groups. Between 2004 and 2014, the group holds more than 50 world concert tour dates and draws a total audience of over 1 million people. It is recognised as Taiwan’s longest-running and highest-selling girl group, the highest-selling girl group in the Mandarin-speaking world, and one of the ten best-selling girl groups globally.

Status and recognition

The group is known by the titles 亞洲女子天團 and 華語樂壇女團天花板. Its contracts with HIM International Music expire on 30 September 2018, and the members do not renew them, instead setting up their own individual management companies. S.H.E does not officially disband, although full-group activity continues to require coordination through HIM International Music because the name is a registered trademark.
