Shaun Reeves

Shaun Reeves is a Berlin-based DJ and producer associated with minimal, techno, tech house and micro house. He begins collecting records and DJing in 2000 after moving to Detroit, where he is shaped by Richie Hawtin’s Control parties and sets by Magda, Dan Bell and Rob Hood, as well as early visits by Perlon artists including Zip and Sammy Dee.

Detroit years

While living in Detroit, Reeves becomes involved in the city’s underground dance community. In 2002 he starts organising parties with Matt Abbott, leading to a regular run of weekly events and one-off parties. These include a renegade loft party in March 2003 with Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola and Derek Plaslaiko as guests. Other artists appearing at these events include Dan Bell, John Tejada, Magda and Theo Parrish. In 2003 and 2004 he also appears at the Detroit “untitled” parties and the afterparties connected to those weekly events.

Berlin and production work

Reeves moves from Detroit to Berlin in 2004 and establishes himself as a local DJ there. He plays at Panorama Bar, Beatstreet, Arena Club, Club der Visionaere and Bar25, and appears frequently at Watergate, where he runs the night Space Monkeys Unite!. After moving to Berlin, he begins working on production.

Releases and collaborators

His production work appears on labels including Raum Musik, Safari Electronique, Kalimari and Mean. On Kalimari, he releases material as Uli Kunkel with Maayan Nidam, also known as Miss Fitz, and Lee Curtiss. His stated influences include Ricardo Villalobos, Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss, Maayan Nidam and Club der Visionaere.
