Shamir

Shamir Bailey is an American singer and songwriter from Las Vegas, United States. Born in 1994, he performs under the stage name Shamir. He is associated with experimental music and is also tagged with electronic, synthpop, soul, hip-hop and indie.

Career

His debut EP, Northtown, is released in 2014 and is followed in 2015 by his first full-length album, Ratchet. His music is described as a blend of disco and funk with elements of pop and old school house.

Voice and style

Shamir is known for his countertenor voice, which is also described as androgynous. He accepts that description, but says countertenor is the more accurate term. Writers compare his singing to artists including Janis Joplin, Prince, Camille and the teenage Michael Jackson, and note his agile, fluttering performance.
