Shaman

Shaman is a Brazilian power metal and progressive metal group formed in 2000. The band starts as a project by former Angra members André Matos, Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori, with Hugo Mariutti later joining on guitar to complete the original line-up. It is active from 2000 to the present.

Formation and line-up

The original formation centres on André Matos, Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori, all previously associated with Angra. Hugo Mariutti, Luis Mariutti’s brother, joins later as guitarist. The current line-up includes André Matos, Ricardo Confessori, Hugo Mariutti, Luis Mariutti, Thiago Bianchi and Alirio Netto.

Name changes and releases

The band changes its name to Shaaman before the release of its second album, Reason, because of copyright issues. After a split in 2006, Ricardo Confessori forms a new line-up with guitarist Leo Mancini, vocalist Thiago Bianchi and bassist Fernando Quesada, and the name Shaman is readopted. This line-up releases Immortal in 2007.
