Seth

Seth is a French black metal band from Bordeaux, active since 1996. The band includes Heimoth and Saint Vincent.

Early releases and first albums

Before its debut album, the group releases a demo tape titled Apocalyptic Desires and a mini-album, By Fire, Power Shall Be.... Its first full-length album, Les blessures de l'âme, appears in 1998 on Season of Mist and receives strong press attention. Seth then signs with Osmose Productions and releases The Excellence in 2000.

Style and collaborations

The band combines different influences within extreme metal. It works with Fenriz of Darkthrone and with the electronic group Total Eclipse, and it also appears on the Tribute to Mayhem compilation on Avantgarde Music alongside acts including Immortal, Behemoth and Dark Funeral.

Later recordings and media appearances

In 2002, Seth records Divine X at Excess Studio in Rotterdam, a studio used by bands such as Sinister, Elegy, After Forever and Epica. The album is again released on Osmose Productions and is noted for combining dark atmospheres with brutality, with positive reviews in magazines including Mindview and Grindzone. In December 2003, the band returns to Excess Studio with a revised line-up, including Cyriex and Black Messiah, to record Era Decay. Seth also appears on French television music shows and makes a video for the French MTV channel MCM.
