Seraphim

Seraphim is a melodic power metal band from Taiwan, active since 2001. The group is female-fronted and is associated with power metal, symphonic metal, Gothic metal and metal.

Line-up

The band’s listed members include Pay Lee, Kessier Hsu, Simon Lin, Jax Yeh, Quinn Weng, Van Shaw, 李佩穎, Mars Liu and Thiago Trinsi. In one line-up description, Quinn handles vocals, Kessier Hsu plays lead guitar and vocals, Van Shaw plays drums, Mars Liu plays bass, and Thiago Trinsi is listed on guitar.

Career and recordings

Seraphim signs with Magnum Music after forming in 2001. Its output includes three albums: The Soul that Never Die, The Equal Spirit and Ai. The band’s production work involves Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman in Sweden, with overdubbing by Mikko Karmila and Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studio in Finland.

The group gains attention beyond Taiwan and is recognised across heavy metal websites in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania. It is described as one of Taiwan’s leading melodic power metal bands and is also referred to as “the star of Asia” by a Japanese heavy metal website.

Notes

One former vocalist, Pay Lee, dies in 2011 following heart surgery.
